What can I expect in the first session?

The first session is an opportunity to explore your goals, share what's been bringing you to therapy, and begin building a therapeutic connection. Your therapist will ask some questions to better understand your needs and collaborate with you on how to move forward.

How often will I attend therapy?

Session frequency depends on your needs and goals. Many clients attend weekly at first, though some may prefer biweekly. Your therapist will work with you to find a schedule that feels right.

How long is each session?

The length of a standard session is 50 minutes. However, we do offer 25-minute sessions as well as 75-minute extended sessions.

How do I know which session length is right for me?

Most clients start with 50-minute sessions, as this is the standard length for therapy. Shorter (25 minutes) can be helpful for brief check-ins, while longer (75 minutes) sessions allow for deeper work or more time with couples and families. You can talk to your therapist about what option feels right for you, and change session lengths as needed.

Are fees the same for all therapists?

No — fees vary depending on the therapist's level of training and years of experience. You can view each therapist's rates and availability on their profile page.

What if I'm not sure which therapist to choose?

If you're unsure who might be the best fit, you're welcome to reach out and we can help match you with a therapist based on your needs and preferences. You can also book a 15-minute consultation to speak directly with a therapist before deciding.

Do you offer therapy for children, families, or couples?

This depends on the therapist. Some therapists in the practice work with children, teens, family, or couples. You can find this information on each therapist's bio or contact us for guidance.

How do I get started?

You can use the contact form, book a consultation directly through the booking page, or reach out by email or phone to begin the process. We're here to support you through the first step.

Is chat therapy the same as texting a therapist?

No. Chat therapy at Flourishing Mind Counselling is provided through secure, PHIPA-conscious electronic communication systems rather than personal text messaging. Messages become part of the clinical record and are handled according to professional privacy and documentation standards.

How quickly will I receive a response?

Response times depend on the service format. During synchronous chat sessions, responses occur in real time during your scheduled appointment. During asynchronous chat therapy, messages are typically reviewed within an agreed upon timeframe.

Can I use chat therapy during a crisis?

No. Chat therapy is not monitored continuously and should not be used if you are unable to stay safe, are having thoughts of suicide or self-harm, or are experiencing any medical or psychiatric emergency. In a crisis, call 911, contact 988, or go to the nearest emergency department.

Is chat therapy as effective as video therapy?

For some concerns, chat therapy can be a helpful and effective option. Many clients appreciate the opportunity to slow down, reflect, and communicate in writing. However, some situations are better suited to video or phone therapy, particularly when more immediate support, closer assessment, or nonverbal communication is important. Your therapist will help determine the best fit for your needs.

How is asynchronous chat therapy billed?

Asynchronous chat therapy is billed according to the therapist’s documented clinical time spent reading, responding, and completing the clinical record. Fees and billing practices will be reviewed with you before the service begins.

Can I switch between chat, phone, and video therapy?

Yes. Many clients use a combination of chat, phone, and video sessions depending on their needs, schedule, and therapeutic goals. Your therapist can help decide which format is most appropriate at different stages of treatment.
